I'm hunting for the basic sausage ball recipe, the one with only 3 ingredients...sausage, cheese, and Bisquick. I've never made 'em and everywhere I look the recipe is different. Some call for 3 cups of Bisquick and others for half that. Can someone post their recipe? I'm having major cravings for some sausage balls!

3 cups of bisquick
1 pound of sausage
1 pound of cheddar cheese

It depends honey. If you want a really cheesy sausagey ball then use half the Bisquick. If you want more of a biscuit and sausage with cheese flavor use the three cups. biggrin.gif

I'd forgotten I had a Bisquick cookbook til I read one of Prplecat's posts earlier this summer. Now that I've unearthed an old favorite, here's their "official" recipe (taking nothing away from the recipe and tips already posted)...

Sausage-Cheese Balls
About 8-1/2 dozen

3 cups Original Bisquick
1 pound uncooked bulk pork sausage
4 cups shredded Cheddar Cheese (16 oz.)
1/2 cup grated Parmesan Cheese
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary leaves, crumbled
1-1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh parsley or 1/2 teaspoon parsley flakes

1. Heat oven to 350. Lightly grease pan.
2. Stir together ingredients until well mixed (you may have to use your hands). Shape mixture into 1-inch balls. Place in pan.
3. Bake 20 - 25 minutes or until brown. Immediately remove from pan. Serve warm.

I only use a cup of bisquick in mine.

Many people use less bisquick than the recipe calls for because the dough gets really stiff, almost crumbly. Thing is, when the fat begins to cook out of the sausage, the sausage balls moisten up a lot more than you would think. I generally add a couple tablespoons extra milk to make mixing easier.

My sausage balls turned out pretty good, but I'm gonna use a different brand of sausage next time...I used Jimmy Dean and it isn't as flavorful as I'm used to.

All my friends always loved my sausage balls.... But after I drank to much and got sick on them years ago I refuse to NEVER EVER make or eat another one..... Tequila is NOT my friend!!!

But I do have a simple, but good recipe for them....

I like to use Cracker Barrel Sharp Cheddar for a little extra kick...
