School is back in session and I am having the time of my life with my class this year!!! I am always looking for new ways to help my students learn. Over the years, I have found some really great sites. I'll post these here each week, along with other educational articles and resources. I hope they will help some of you with young learners.

This week's site is one I just found.. it is an amazing sight to support reading and literacy skills. It is totally free... you just need to register. The stories are colorful, annimation is good and the activities are wonderful!

No new great sites to share, but I did find this quote on the side of my Starbuck's cup...
Besides the rush I get from the caffine, sometimes I get some words of wisdom.
The Way I See It #273
All children need a laptop. Not a computer, but a human laptop. Moms, dads, grannies and grandpas, aunts, uncles- someone to hold them, read to them, teach them. Loved ones who will embrace them and pass on the experience, rituals, and knowledge of a hundred generations. Loved ones who will pass to the next generation their expectations of them, their hopes, and their dreams.

I was watching the Today show and they did a segment about this site for kids:
Kidzui

QUOTE
KidZui is a kid’s browser with access to over 600,000 websites, pictures and videos reviewed by teachers and parents like you.

Can my kids still get to their favorite sites?
You bet! KidZui has all the sites and games kids love and tons more. It’s a fun, safe and engaging environment that rewards curiosity and builds independence.

Where does KidZui content come from?
KidZui does not create content. It comes from all over the Internet – over 600,000 kid-friendly websites, videos and pictures and it’s growing every day. KidZui is built by real people who care about kids. Over 200 trained teachers and parents have reviewed and approved sites, videos and pictures using a rigorous content selection process. And our reviewers don’t just approve content, they categorize it for age-appropriateness and by topic.

It looks interesting. The segment on the Today show was about safe sites for kids. This one was highly recommended. It is free, but has a pay option ($4.95/mo. or 49.95/yr.).

The Polar Express by Chris Van Allaburg has become one of my favorite Christmas books over the years. A beautiful story about believing in the magic of the holiday. I do a unit in my class around the story. Here are some links where I get my ideas.
