I have been having some major problems related to a pinched sciatic nerve. I have a very high pain tolerance, but this has gotten to the point where the pain is altering every part of my life. I saw an orthopedic doc last week and he's scheduled me for an epidural procedure to inject steroids into the area to relieve the pain. Has anyone ever had this done? Did it help? Would you do it again?

I personally haven't had any experience with this, but there's a girl in our office who has this exact problem. She's had the epidural also and said that, without that treatment, she probably wouldn't be able to sit up at her desk like she's able to do now. She said it has helped tremendously.

Good luck!! I hope it helps you!

I've had it done before. And my advice to you is..... DO IT! If it hadn't been for my injections I don't know what I'd have done. I couldn't move. I won't lie and say it doesn't hurt....but the pain you're probably already in.......... might not matter! I only had two of the three scheduled because it had gotten so much better I didn't need the third shot. Good luck to you. I know the pain you're in. But it'll go away after the shots. So to answer your questions....Yes, yes and HELL YES! LOL

A friend at my job had it done and it was the answer to her prayers

Good Luck!!!

Thanks, y'all! My first shot is on Dec. 5th. I feel better about having it knowing that it actually works!

Sounds like your doc is right on track... Have they mentioned physcial therapy? Depending on where the pinched nerve is, it could help.

I'm seeing the doc a week after my first shot. He's going to talk to me about therapy then. My pinched nerve is in the lumbar area.

[font=Georgia]Definitely a good choice to proceed with the treatment. I've had several patients that this allowed to return to a normal life after long periods of pain. Lots of luck to you and I hope it does the same for you! smile.gif
Let us know how it goes..

It works!!!! Before the epidural I would have to sit down every few minutes until the pain subsided. I shopped without sitting for over an hour this week with only minor pain toward the end. The only time I have had severe pain was standing in line for a long period of time at a school function. Before the shot, the pain was always worse when I was standing still than when walking. Even so, it wasn't as bad as before. I'm scheduled for another epidural next week. I can have a third one as needed. I start physical therapy in about a week.

I definitely recommend this procedure if your doc suggests it! I was sedated but not asleep and didn't feel a thing. It only took a couple of minutes to do. There was some soreness at the injection site afterward, but it was minor and only lasted a couple of days.

I'm so glad it worked for you too! I haven't had anymore problems since my shots. And that was about 3 years ago now. Not to say my back doesn't hurt some, but not to the degree it had when I needed those shots!
